Project Supplemental warp and weft ep. 3.9
I am developping my own draft based on Jane’s explanations in episode 3.9 on supplemental warps and wefts (swivel?). Just to check that I understood it right.
This is NOT her pattern, since you have to be a student to get it. It is my own exploration of the marvelous idea of graphical effects in 4 shafts and plain weave.
A quick draft on screen in Indesign (can not use fiberworks software for supplemental threads, I am afraid), real weaving last.
I write “levers” numbers since I use a table loom Jane, by Louet.
I did the draft in Indesign because I am very familiar with the software and I can define colour styles to each shaft/blocks, changeable at will with one click.
Project in half size, I work on an A4 format in Indesign: approx. 18cm on screen will be approx. 36 cm wide for weaving project
13columns (here 1.4cm wide each, final 2.8cm), left and right colums are 2cm, final 4 cm half of which are columns with supplementary warp.
I use 6 shafts, each with a different
colour: 1 and 2 in PW, 3 to 6 in
various colours
whenever we see a
square I lift the specific shaft :
levers 13 23 to be repeated for colournr 3 floats at the back for 4 5 6 will not be long, and will be cut
On same line, two shafts can be lifted, like 5 and 6 on first pattern:
levers 156 256 to be repeated floats on 3 and 4 will be cut at the back
large white ground areas are downs levers 1 2
Little lines on top of squares are supplemental wefts, to be cut later so that they make tufts:
levers 1 3 2 4 where 1 and 2 are ground colour and 3 and 4 are the thicker weft - colours as seen on draft large
horizontal white striped areas in the middle are inspired by red scarf by “Leezy” (?) as seen on video - they are supplemental weft with thicker thread, left colours seen on draft (pseudo fringe on the right and left), colours of right band are separate shuttle
I left a bit of pattern colour unstriped, just to remind myself of it - final will be striped on whole block
either levers 1 3 2 3 or 1 4 2 4 or 1 3 2 4
all long floats at the back will be cut after washing
